Originally from Ireland, Mike moved to the UK in 2008 to study a BSc. in Strength and Conditioning Sciences followed by a MSc. in Sports and Exercise Physiology at the well renowned sports institute of St. Mary’s University in Twickenham in London. Mike is passionate about rugby and went on to play rugby semi-professionally with Richmond RFC whilst also working as a strength and conditioning coach at Harlequins Rugby during their premiership winning year in 2012.
Mike went on to work as a personal trainer in a private health club in Chiswick for five years providing specialist strength and conditioning coaching, movement screening, injury rehabilitation, and bespoke exercise prescription for the members, while at the same time undertaking his second MSc. in Physiotherapy at Brunel University in London.
Since graduating as a physiotherapist, Mike has worked in a variety of different clinical settings; from trauma and orthopedics and MSK within the NHS, to post-operative orthopaedics and MSK in private healthcare. He is also currently the first-team physiotherapist for Esher Rugby Club and has a great deal of experience treating upper and lower limb injuries, post-operative procedures and joint replacements, and has a special interest in lower limb injuries, with particular interest in sports rehabilitation, ACL rehabilitation, tendon injuries, and strength and conditioning.
Mike utilizes his background in strength and conditioning and movement analysis to ensure technical proficiency is taught and maintained in all movements to further reduce the likelihood of injury and to improve your overall quality and efficiency in movement. Mike also has experience in exercise testing, myofascial release therapy, sports massage, and sports taping to compliment the patient’s bespoke rehabilitation program.
Outside of work, Mike is very active with mountain biking, bouldering, triathlon, and golf. He is also currently training for his first Ironman triathlon next year.
